Introduction to Social Work

Introduction to Social Work

The "Introduction to Social Work" (SW-2570) course offers a comprehensive overview of the social work profession, covering its history, core values, ethical principles, and various practice settings. As a university-designated Experiential Learning (EXL) course, it includes a hands-on learning project and contributes toward earning the EXL Scholar Graduation Distinction.

I am teaching one section of this course: an in-person class that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I recently transitioned the course to an MT Engage-exclusive format, incorporating specific out-of-class learning experiences aligned with course material.

Introduction to Social Work

The "Social Policy" (SW-3000) course explores the development, implementation, and impact of social policies, focusing on how these policies address social issues and affect the well-being of individuals and communities. The course strongly emphasizes research, writing, and presentation skills.

I am teaching two sections of this course: an in-person class that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays and an online class.

F24 - Week One (students sharing their area of interest in social work, culminating in a research assignment)

F24 - Constitution week: Social Policy students volunteering to register students to vote!

F24 - Dr. Evins, American Democracy Project, speaks to Intro to SW students about voter registration

F24 - social policy early voting excursion experience

On the morning of October 30, 2024, the Social Policy SW-3000-B01 class gathered outside the Election Commission Office in downtown Murfreesboro to engage in the voting process as part of their Early Voting Excursion Experience. This event was particularly significant for five students who cast their ballots for the first time.

Waiting with some of the students as others were finishing voting!

F24: Introduction to Social Work - kymari House Visit

Kymari House: a safe, conflict-free environment for supervised visitations for children and families
