Very excited to announce that I passed the ASWB MSW Licensure Exam on Dec. 21st.
I am deeply grateful for Dr. Carmelita L. Dotson's mentorship during my MSW experience. Dr. Dotson's high expectations, constructive feedback, and unwavering support have been pivotal in my academic and professional growth. Under her mentorship, I gained insight into the rigorous demands of academia and expanded my professional network through connections with university and community leaders.
Dr. Dotson, an assistant professor and BSW Coordinator in the Department of Social Work at MTSU, holds a B.S. in Sociology from Tennessee State University, an M.S.S.W. in Administration and Planning from the University of Tennessee, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Tennessee State University. She has co-authored peer-reviewed articles, completed book reviews, and presented regionally and nationally. Her research focuses on the impact of various learning formats on student achievement, service-learning strategies, and the relationship between culture and climate in organizational settings.
Dr. Dotson believes in creating a stimulating academic environment for lifelong learners to grow holistically. This belief, rooted in the principle of Ujima (collective work and responsibility), guides her mentorship of students and faculty. She has been recognized by students for her impactful teaching and mentorship through the Division of Student Affairs, Enrollment, and Academic Services.
As a co-facilitator of an inclusive teaching faculty learning community and a member of the curriculum committee, Dr. Dotson is instrumental in innovative course development and the MT Engage major pathway. She actively connects theory to practice through service learning and community engagement and volunteers with various nonprofit organizations.
